Noise and Vibration Controls

Our View

Most jurisdictions impose legal restrictions on noise, vibration and overblast air pressure (from blasting) near populated areas. It may also be necessary to impose restrictions to prevent disruption to fauna, particularly during mating seasons.

People can feel vibrations at very low levels and become concerned not only because they are annoyed by the feeling, but also because of concern for structural damage that the vibrations might cause to their properties. Having good relations with our communities is necessary for our long-term operations. If we show lack of knowledge or sensitivity towards our communities, we may face claims for damages or disturbances that could affect us financially and, more importantly, our image as a responsible company.

Our Environmental Commitment

In WMC, we will:

  • Determine the baseline noise environment for all new project developments.
  • Consult with interested parties on noise management strategies.
  • Design, construct and operate our facilities to minimise noise and vibration to sensitive areas.
  • Monitor transmission of noise and vibration to areas identified as sensitive.
