Leinster Nickel Operations

Community

Leinster Nickel Operation continues to contribute to the Leinster Community by providing on-going support for infrastructure, maintenance and capital expenditure. WMC also contributes to a host of community-based activities and events.

In 2004, a major upgrade of the Leinster supermarket, including new refrigeration display units and computerised stock-recognition systems. Leinster Nickel Operation continued to support the on-going maintenance of the town's local primary school and has contributed to a variety of programs and initiatives participated in by local families and their children.

Some examples of support include the provision of airfares and accommodation for a Wildcats basketball representative to visit Leinster and train children in basketball, and complementary flights to train local swimming coaches for the community. This year Leinster Nickel Operation has also promoted recycling projects undertaken by the school and has sponsored travel costs and attendance by school children at awards ceremonies and other events.

WMC continues to embrace and advocate healthy-choice lifestyles in Leinster, with free admission to the well-maintained 50-metre swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts and oval for all residents and fly-in fly-out personnel. Leinster Nickel Operation has also contributed to the Golf Club in 2004 through the sponsorship of Open Days and has made donations to support the widely attended Leinster Races.

Throughout 2004 Leinster Nickel Operation has assisted neighbouring communities through the support of community service acts such as the collection of second-hand articles for Wiluna residents. Items are sold for $1 and the money collected is returned to Home and Community Care for the benefit of local residents. Leinster Nickel Operation also regularly donates surplus mattresses and linen to the Wiluna Community, which is gratefully received, along with the clothing donations of Leinster families. This has been a successful venture and will continue.

Leinster Nickel Operation also values and funds the local publication of the Leinster Listener. The Listener provides the residents and fly-in fly-out personnel of Leinster with a forum for shared information between Leinster Nickel Operation and the greater community.
