Our Approach

We use our Take Time, Take Charge program as the basis for creating a consistent and appropriate work environment, health and safety culture and behaviours.

Through Take Time, Take Charge, we aim to have everyone:

• stop before they do any work
• think through the task, step-by-step
• assess the potential hazards
• respond by making changes or seeking assistance if they believe that there is an unacceptable risk of injury or environmental harm.

Take Time, Take Charge has shown us that successful cultural change is achieved by:

• being consistent and relentless in promoting the safety, health and environment message
• maintaining a focus on people as individuals
• recognising and rewarding changed behaviour
• having communications delivered by the direct supervisor or manager of the employee or work group because they are best placed to positively influence our people.

We reinforce the Take Time, Take Charge message through a variety of communication media including ‘The Difference’, which is an experiential training program that emotionally engages our workforce in pursuing injury- and incident-free operations.
